Sam Hiersteiner

New Profit
Sam Hiersteiner is the Communications Director at New Profit. He joined the organization in 2013 and oversees all aspects of New Profit’s public communications, including traditional and social media engagement, the organization’s website and blog, and executive communications. He also provides support to America Forward and New Profit’s Portfolio Investment Team and Development Team.

Prior to joining New Profit, Sam was a Vice President at The Glover Park Group (GPG), a Washington, DC-based strategic communications firm where he worked for eight years. While at GPG, Sam was part of a team that built an industry-leading portfolio of non-profit, foundation, and social enterprise clients including the United Nations Foundation, Participant Media, AARP, the LIVESTRONG Foundation, ONE, the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network, Oxfam America, and FINCA International. He joined GPG from Burson-Marsteller, the global public relations agency where he worked for clients including Gap Inc. and Coca-Cola on initiatives related to corporate social responsibility. 

Sam graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in modern European history. He serves on the board of City Blossoms, an organization that provides community garden-based educational opportunities for public school students. He is also a food writer whose work has appeared in Huffington Post, Art of Eating, Refinery 29, Washington City Paper, DC Modern Luxury and Capitol File. He currently lives in Washington, DC’s historic Shaw neighborhood with his wife, Jackie, and their dog, Pappy Van Winkle.
